The Lighthouse Centre
Is a centre for the mentally and physically impaired. It caters to individuals between 9 and upwards of age. The centre is meant to motivate and to show those who join, that being impaired does not mean that they are incapable. It teaches them skills that they can use to earn a profit, it also teaches them people skills. We also get them to make their own personal projects to empower them and to show them, that they can do anything if they try.
We teach them how to cook and bake so that they can be more independent. We try to create a safe space for all those that are a part of our centre. We cater to all types of disabilities, and we are very inclusive. In these classes, the disabled learn to make various products such as clocks, tea trays, candle holders, jewelry boxes and many others.
They learn skills, like how to sand using an electric sander, how to drill into wood, how to use wood filler, and how to cut, varnish and paint. They also learn dancing skills and they do daily exercises.
We teach the students about maintaining a garden, while growing our own vegetables.
We also provide the services of a physiotherapist to anyone that would like to go for physiotherapy every week. As a person with a physical disability sometimes physiotherapy can be important and beneficial for their well-being, so we offer services for those who need physiotherapy. In addition to all of these amazing benefits, the center is a place for people alike to meet and make friends. In their situations, it is very difficult to make friends when they don’t go out a lot and see many other people like them, or other people with disabilities that can relate with them and who understand each other. Our center is a remedy for this.
This allows parents to do their shopping or to go out with friends during the day and have the peace of mind knowing that their family member is safe and comfortable.
Activities
Exercise & Boccia
Physical activity is essential for well-being. From gentle stretches to competitive Boccia (an adaptive sport like bowls), our programs promote mobility, teamwork, and inclusive play.
Dance & Movement
We offer fun, energetic sessions that combine movement, music, and rhythm — encouraging physical activity, body awareness, and joyful expression.
Gardening
Gardening helps participants connect with nature while learning responsibility and patience. They plant, water, and care for herbs, flowers, and vegetables in our planter boxes.
Sewing
Our sewing workshops teach basic techniques such as threading, stitching, and hand-finishing. These skills allow participants to create their own fabric projects with pride.
Woodwork
Our woodwork sessions teach participants how to cut, sand, drill, and varnish — turning raw materials into clocks, trays, toys, and more. These hands-on skills build confidence, coordination, and creativity.
Arts & Crafts
From painting to handmade décor, our arts and crafts sessions encourage self-expression and fine motor skills. Every piece tells a story — and many are sold at local markets to support the creator.
Our Facilities
The The Lighthouse Centre Centre is fully equipped to support a wide range of activities in a safe, inclusive environment. Our space includes workshop areas for woodwork and crafts, a kitchen for cooking and baking sessions, a Boccia court for physical activity, therapy-friendly spaces, accessible bathrooms, and peaceful outdoor areas for gardening and relaxation. Everything is designed with care to meet the needs of individuals with physical and mental disabilities.
